Little Bit of Nothing
I've seen worse...

Almost done with the kitchen. Over last week, after gutting it, we put in a new subfloor, painted the walls, put in resilient tile (the sticky kind), fixed the leaky and clogged drain, put in the cabinets, and cut the counter tops. Today I sand some adhesive off of one wall and finish the molding and the thresholds. Tomorrow we put in the sink and attach the counter. Then, when the budget is out of critical condition, I'll tile the backsplash and put in some folding doors by the laundry room. This has been very hard but also a lot of fun. I've learned a lot and I'm not afraid to do it again.

We have officially begun the demolition of the kitchen. As it turns out, there are no shut-off valves to the kitchen sink so we had to turn the water off to the whole house. It took us probably an hour and 2 trips into the crawlspace to finally find the shut-off. We would have been in big trouble if there was an emergency. Then we (my dad and I) went to Lowe's to get caps for the water lines and some new shut off valves and all the other little plumbing parts we needed. Now the sink is gone and the lines are capped and we have water to the rest of the house. While we were under the house, my dad noticed a leak in our cast iron drain pipe from the kitchen sink. We wondered why there so much water and mildew there. We'll fix that today (saturday). Friday night after my parents left (and after the presidential debate) Jason and I started taking out the old cabinets. They were not screwed in. They were nailed in. And my dad wants to use them in his basement. So we had to rip the cabinets out without damaging them. It went smoother than I expected. We took out the hanging cabinets, the built in oven and the unit around it. Today we get to take out the stove, counter top and floor cabinets. Hooray!
