The center shelving of the entertainment center is up and functioning. It sags a bit in the middle. I knew it would but I couldn't think of a really good way to support it. It can always be fixed later if I come up with a good idea. One of the outer shelves is almost done. It needs one coat of polyurethane and then it's in the house. The third piece is still in boards on the floor. If the weather is decent, Jason and I will build that over the weekend and I will finish it throughout the week. So my plan is to have the whole thing completely finished by next weekend. Someday I'd like to have the right tools to make good stuff that looks good. But for my first attempt, it's turned out...not too bad.

Celebration went...lame. Everything was fine. It looked just like it does every semester. I really didn't do much work at all. Throwing a party's not that hard. I just don't like parties. The one interesting thing that happened is that I was sitting around in the middle of the celebration wishing I was anywhere but there. I kept looking around for something to do, clean up, move around, something. This was around 8:00. Finally the celebration was over around 8:30. We were almost done cleaning around 8:45 when I realized I had forgotten all about feeding Luke at 8. I ran to the nursery but he was doing just fine. I felt like a horrible mother though. How can I just forget my son? Well, anyway, the celebration is over now but the praying has begun for someone else to take over. I feel selfish not wanting to do it anymore because it's easy, but I just don't like parties or large groups of women. Besides, I would really like to take SCM when it starts.

Tonight's the Monday with the Master's Celebration for the spring classes (CFC). I've been in classes for years and loved them. I did not, however, like the celebrations. I thought they were feminine and lame (not that there's anything wrong with that...). Sometimes the food was good though. This spring I'm not even in a class. So get this...I'm coordinating the celebration. How did this happen? I saw a need and thought I'd give it a try. It's not for me, but I did my best on it anyway. We just finished setting everything up this afternoon. Looks lame again. Decorations aren't my thing. I just did a Costanza - do the opposite of my instincts. We'll see how it goes. I think most of work is done. Tonight I just hang out, eat, and solve any problems that come up. Lame.

Jason and I started our entertainment center this weekend. We don't know what we are doing. I have never built anything in my life. But I'm having fun. I used my circular saw for the first time. For some reason I thought it would be easier to cut a straight line. (I need a table saw.) No one got hurt. Back up a bit to Lowe's. We chose some plywood that was 15/32 inches thinck (about a half inch). My plan was to use L brackets for the shleves but we couldn't find any way to get screws that would be strong enough but short enough to not go through the outside of the wood. So we decided to use square dowel rods to make sort of a bar under the shelves. We did a lot of work cutting the rods up and sanding them. We put one screw in and it split. Just what I had feared (though it seemed like a great idea at the time). So we decided to just drive screws through the outside into the shelves on the inside. But the screws we had were too short so I had to make the inevitable second trip to Lowe's. Also, my drill bits are meager because I keep breaking them. The bit we were using for the pilot holes was not sharp so it was tiring. We (meaning me) kept laughing so hard because we kept screwing up and the shelving we were working on was so ugly. Everytime we'd mess up, we'd say we will just hide that part. Maybe we'll keep it in the closet or something. Jason was hilarious. Feeling retarded became hilarious after awhile. We decide just to do the middle section today. We used a lot of wood filler on our mistakes and over the screws. Sometime this week I will sand that and then stain it. It may turn out decent after all. But like Jason said, we may have to get rid of it when we try to sell the house. But we will keep it forever...in the basement. Then we will give it to Abby. Why isn't Jason updating his blog? Is it because no one comments?

I just checked the results of the 5K I ran in.
They have me down as 32:57 but I watched the clock as I ran though. It said 32:48. Anyways, I finished 160 out of 189. Not too shabby. Posted by: Laura @ 4/01/2004 01:09:00 PM

I love DVR. Jason and I take about 10 minutes or so and look through the guide. We choose all the stuff that looks interesting or the shows we already know we like (even movies) and we set it to record those programs. No time setting, no blank tapes. It just does it. Then, when we feel like watching tv, we just go to our recorded items and pick from there. There's no commercials because we fast forward through them. It's great! Jason was right all a long. He usually is.

I painted the Collins' kitchen this week. I normally enjoy painting, and I did this time too, but, man, that neighborhood is scary. During the day it's not so bad, except for the noises upstairs. There's some animal living up there rent free. I decided to work there Tuesday evening while Jason was at church. He came by with supper and then left. I thought I'd get a lot done but I was outta there shortly after Jason left. I'll admit it. I was scared. I just wanted to get the kids in the car and back home. What does all this say about me? Should I be scared just because it's a poor neighborhood? I don't know.
And what's up with the cold? I need another haircut already. It's been one month since I got it cut and I need an inch off. I don't mind so much because I like when they wash my hair. Appointment tonight. Posted by: Laura @ 4/01/2004 08:39:00 AM
